The length of time that you will choose to come to counselling depends on you. While some people find therapy to be a support in dealing with ongoing life issues, others choose to deal with one specific issue over a few sessions and do not need to return. On average, the process of discovering and understanding what has brought you to therapy will take about ten sessions, and another ten sessions will allow you to develop the coping skills necessary to feel that you can better deal with your life. You may also choose to come in from time to time following this concentration which will serve to give your newly developed skills some ‘glue’.
You will be sitting on a couch or chair in a private setting. The process is one of discussion regarding your life and how you have perceived your experience. You may soon begin to see your life in new ways and while therapy is work, it also helps to relieve the burden of the difficulties that you are experiencing.
